Our nation’s economy is comprised 97% of small business, and 50% of the workforce work in small business. That’s why it’s so important to help establish and grow successful small businesses.

Volunteering as a SCORE® counselor allows you to do just that. As a counselor you will interact with a diversity of people who are either already in business and seek advice on ways to grow or who want to start a small business successfully. You can help them achieve lifetime dreams and become independent business people. Your background and experience can contribute to a comprehensive mentoring experience for our clients. Counselors find this extremely rewarding.

Nationwide 10,500 men and women, retired and actively working, from all backgrounds donate their time and talent to assist America’s small businesses. The Delaware chapter of SCORE® is always looking for community conscious individuals with business leadership experience who enjoy learning, problem-solving business challenges and sharing their knowledge with emerging and in-business entrepreneurs. We are State wide, with counselors and activities in all 3 counties.

As a volunteer you can participate in any or all of the following:

• providing confidential one-on-one face-to-face counseling with individuals or business teams
• leading entrepreneurial training workshops in a wide variety of business subjects such as business start-up, marketing, and finance
• serving as a “virtual” volunteer providing e-mail counseling directly from your home or office

With a commitment of as little as half day per week, you will be fully trained in all aspects of counseling. After a short orientation session, your training will consist of being mentored one-on-one by an experienced counselor, by co-counseling with your mentor, and by self-study at your own pace. Only when you and your mentor feel you are sufficiently grounded in the fundamentals and are ready, will you begin solo counseling.
